SEES in Sydney

Sydney, is Australia’s largest city with a greater metropolitan population of over 5.3 million located on a vast natural harbour on the Eastern seaboard of Australia. The city is well known for its natural beauty, outdoor lifestyle and diverse ethnic population.

The SEES Otology Fellowship is a 12 month Fellowship combining clinical and research components.

The Fellow will be trained with the SEES Endoscopic Ear Surgery curriculum in a step-wise manner.

Fellowship Objective: To train a surgeon to competency in general otology and cochlear implantation work with a heavy focus on Endoscopic Ear surgery.  This is NOT a skull base fellowship.

Location: Most of the operative experience is at North Shore Private and Macquarie University Hospitals. The Fellow is also expected to attend Public Hospital Otology lists and outpatients clinics at Royal North Shore Hospital every Monday.

Case Load: 30 – 40 otology cases per month.

Oncall commitments: Nil

Renumeration: Private assistant fees provide for an income approx AUD $100,000

Research: The fellow is expected to be involved in the publication of at least 3 journal articles in their year of work.

John’s Fellowship Experience

Following the trend of every previous fellow’s experience, my fellowship year was life-changing from both a professional and personal standpoint. Traveling 15,550 km from Toronto to Sydney, my wife and I didn’t know what to expect beyond packing away our winter clothes and looking forward to warmer temperatures. It didn’t take us long to realize we were living in one of the most beautiful and dynamic places in the world. At the end of the year, we left feeling immense gratitude and appreciation for the warmth and hospitality of all the people we met, friends we made and unforgettable memories we will carry for the rest of our lives.
